Do you really think your friends suit you?

There is no such thing as a standard way to be friends with someone. That’s why it’s so hard to talk about it. And that’s precisely why I am sitting here, typing an article about friendship. Can we just appreciate the wonder that is my mind? Thank you.

friends that suit you

Surely you have met, or worse, you are! one of those 'We need to keep in touch every day or we aren't friends' kind of person. Well, those are the hard ones to deal with, and I’m talking from experience here. It was hard to stay friends with them when I was living in the same town, nevermind now that I am on the other side of the world.

I know, I know, we have technology and all sorts of social networks to talk and share any daily event. But let's be honest, we have a life outside our phone and sometimes it feels better on your own non-filtered skin.

I'm more of a 'We haven't talked in almost a year and it's like no time passed!' kind of friend. So, don't take my lack of constant update as a sign of my cold heart. Instead, expect a very random picture of something that for whatever reason reminded me of you. At 4 am, because time difference.

That being said, I wouldn't call myself a proper laid back and easy going person. It's hard for me to open up with new friends, and sometimes even to keep them and in the darkness bind them.

Moving away from your hometown and being in a work environment makes it a lot harder to make friends, especially if you are not an extroverted chatterbox. The plus side of a situation like this is that you are finally able to choose your own friends! There is no need to feel like you 'have to' befriend someone just because they lived next to you or attended the same classes.

The feeling of being able to pick the friends you want it's like building a new capsule wardrobe. You can have comfortable clothes that fit you, or you can go all out and have those dreamy clothes you saw on Instagram. There is only one question to ask yourself: will they suit you?
